Atomic City

While on a road trip through the Western U.S., I stumbled upon the eerie town of Atomic City, Idaho—home of the world’s first fatal nuclear reactor accident (1961).  On this grey, snowy day I wanted to capture the feeling of time standing still.  To me it looked as if nothing had changed since 1961—as if the accident had just happened, and all that remained were a few houses and a bar.  According to the census, about 20 people live in Atomic City…but on this day it seemed completely deserted and I found no one to ask what it feels like to live in an isolated town, scarred by radioactive history.
